Urgensi Pengelolaan Sampah Plastik dalam Mendukung Mitigasi Pencemaran Lingkungan Laut

Salah satu masalah lingkungan yang diprediksi menjadi isu utama adalah pencemaran plastik yang dapat mengganggu keanekaragaman hayati. Hal ini dikarenakan Sampah plastik tetap berada di ekosistem pesisir dan laut selama bertahun-tahun karena hanya terurai dan tidak hilang. Selain itu, sampah plastik juga dapat menyebabkan Indonesia mengalami kerugian ganda akibat pencemaran lingkungan. Pemerintah Indonesia telah mencanangkan target pengurangan kebocoran sampah plastik ke laut sebanyak 70% pada tahun 2025 dan 100% pada tahun 2060. Hal ini tentunya membutuhkan penelitian-penelitian dari beberapa pihak yang berkompeten serta dukungan dari semua pihak agar target tersebut dapat tercapai.
Orasi berjudul Urgensi Pengelolaan Sampah Plastik dalam Mendukung Mitigasi Pencemaran Lingkungan Laut memuat mengenai bagaimana solusi penanganan sampah plastik yang menjadi masalah yang serius dalam jangka panjang bagi ekosistem laut. Perlunya replikasi dalam aplikasi jaring sampah sungai di Indonesia, khususnya di kota besar. Selain itu, pengelolaan sampah juga dapat dilakukan dengan mendaur ulang sampah plastik dengan melakukan integrasi untuk membuat program bank sampah berkelanjutan dengan program EPR sesuai dengan Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup Nomor 14 Tahun 2021 tentang Pengelolaan Sampah pada Bank Sampah. Pengelolaa sampah daur ulang juga dapat menggunakan pendekatan pemilahan yang dilakukan dari sumber dan peningkatan waste collection rate tiap kawasan serta dikombinasikan dengan Material Recovery Facilitie.
Orasi ini diharapkan memberikan kebaruan bagi pembaca mengenai bahayanya dampak pencemaran limbah plastik bagi ekosistem laut di Indonesia serta cara pengelolaan sampah untuk membantu mengurangi pencemaran limbah sampah plastik tersebut. Pengelolaan sampah dengan menerapkan daur ulang sampah melalui program EPR. Selain itu, pengeolaan sampah dengan pendekatan pemilahan yang dilakukan dari sumber dan peningkatan waste collection rate tiap kawasan serta dikombinasikan dengan Material Recovery Facilities dan peningkatan industri daur ulang secara merata akan mereduksi sampah yang masuk ke laut secara masif.
