SENI CADAS PETROGLIF CITAPEN: TINGGALAN PRASEJARAH DI BAGIAN BARAT PULAU JAWA

Abstract

Abstrak.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi seni di Situs Citapen yang diukir pada ceruk tebing Sungai Cijolang, menentukan periode pembuatannya, dan menganalisis kemungkinan maknanya. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis kualitatif dengan pendekatan arkeologis, meliputi observasi lapangan, dokumentasi fotografi, analisis ikonografi, dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa petroglif Citapen berasal dari masa Mesolitik-Paleometalik. Ciri khas goresan halus menunjukkan penggunaan logam atau alat batu yang diasah dengan teknik khusus, mengindikasikan keterampilan dan pengetahuan masyarakat prasejarah saat itu. Analisis ikonografi mengungkapkan bahwa motif-motif pada petroglif Citapen kemungkinan besar merepresentasikan makhluk hidup, aktivitas berburu, dan unsur-unsur alam yang memiliki makna simbolis dalam kehidupan masyarakat pada masa itu. Petroglif Citapen merupakan salah satu temuan penting dalam prasejarah Indonesia dan berpotensi memperbaiki pemahaman kita tentang kehidupan masyarakat prasejarah di Jawa Barat.

Abstract. This research aims to identify the art at the Citapen Site which is carved into the niche of the Cijolang River cliff, determine the period of its creation, and analyze its possible meaning. The method used is qualitative analysis with an archaeological approach, including field observation, photographic documentation, iconographic analysis and literature study. The research results show that the Citapen petroglyphs originate from the Mesolithic-Paleometallic period. The characteristic fine scratches indicate the use of metal or stone tools sharpened with special techniques, indicating the skills and knowledge of prehistoric people at that time. Iconographic analysis reveals that the motifs on the Citapen petroglyphs most likely represent living creatures, hunting activities, and natural elements that had symbolic meaning in communities’s lives at that time. The Citapen petroglyphs are one of the important finds in Indonesian prehistory and have the potential to improve our understanding of the life of prehistoric communities in West Java.
