TEKNOLOGI PEMULIAAN DALAM MENINGKATKAN PRODUKTIVITAS DOMBA UNGGUL INDONESIA

Domba merupakan salah satu hewan ternak yang berperan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan protein hewani di Indonesia. Namun, domba lokal Indonesia memiliki berbagai batasan untuk mencapai tingkat produksi tertentu. Domba lokal memiliki bulu (wool) yang cenderung tebal sehingga dapat menjadi pembatas bagi produktivitas domba di daerah tropis lembap. Hal ini dikarenakan daerah topis lembap dapat memicu perkembangan parasit dan penyakit. Selain bulu, terdapat beberapa faktor lain yang dapat mempengaruhi tingkat produktivitas, seperti faktor genetik, lingkungan, dan interaksi keduanya. Kinerja produksi domba lokal relatif lebih rendah dibandingkan dengan rumpun domba lainnya di dunia. Perubahan iklim juga menjadi tantangan tersendiri karena dapat juga menurunkan produktivitas domba.
Buku Teknologi Pemuliaan dalam Meningkatkan Produktivitas Domba Unggul Indonesia hadir untuk menganalisis dan memberikan solusi pada permasalahan tingkat produktivitas domba lokal Indonesia yang terbatas, yang disebabkan oleh berbagai macam faktor, dengan menerapkan teknologi pemuliaan untuk menghasilkan produtivitas domba yang unggul. Buku ini diharapkan dapat mendukung peningkatan investasi, mendorong kolaborasi antarstakeholder untuk terus memajukan pemuliaan domba, serta dapat menginspirasi para peneliti dan ilmuwan untuk terus mengembangkan inovasi dalam pemuliaan hewan ternak di Indonesia.
