Polutan di badan air memiliki kemampuan untuk berikatan dengan bahan partikular yang kemudian akan diendapkan sebagai sedimen. Adanya polutan di sedimen mampu memberikan pengaruh negatif bagi biota yang ada di dalamnya, mulai dari terganggunya tingkat seluler hingga pada skala yang lebih luas berupa punahnya biota akuatik. Hadirnya buku ini memiliki beberapa keunggulan dibandingkan buku lainnya sejenis yang ada di pasaran Indonesia, di antaranya
Buku ini diharapkan dapat menambah wawasan tentang teknik untuk menilai kualitas dan bioavailabilitas polutan yang terikat dan terendapkan pada sedimen. Selain itu, buku ini juga diharapkan mampu memperkaya pengetahuan tentang teknik menilai kualitas sedimen serta sebagai bahan acuan bagi akademisi, peneliti, mahasiswa, maupun agensi lingkungan yang mendalami kualitas, bioavailabilitas, dan toksisitas polutan pada sedimen.
