Penganugerahan Habibie Prize merupakan salah satu upaya untuk melanjutkan harapan dan cita-cita Habibie membangun SDM Indonesia unggul dan berdaya saing, yang sejalan dengan visi kenegaraan Presiden Joko Widodo dalam hal pengembangan SDM. Pembangunan SDM unggul akan sangat mendukung kemajuan Indonesia dan menjadi salah kunci utama peningkatan daya saing di percaturan global. Hal yang harus disadari bahwa kemajuan suatu bangsa tidak cukup hanya dengan tersedianya sumber daya alam yang melimpah dan pembangunan infrastruktur yang masif, tetapi juga harus didukung dengan peningkatan kualitas SDM; SDM Indonesia yang mampu berinovasi untuk membangun bangsa.
