Ilmu perpustakaan adalah salah satu ilmu yang mengikuti perkembangan teknologi dan inovasi. Selain mengalami perkembangan ilmunya, bidang perpustakaan telah memberi kontribusi besar terhadap perkembangan seluruh ilmu pengetahuan melalui pengelolaan informasi dan komunikasi. Tren dan dinamika penelitian merefleksikan bahwa kajian ilmu perpustakaan dan informasi yang dibangun dari berbagai perspektif akan menghasilkan pengetahuan baru. Buku Tren dan Dinamika Kajian Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi ini mengulas tentang tren ilmu perpustakaan, mulai dari kerangka produksi pengetahuan hingga implikasi praktisnya dalam tata kelola informasi. Selain itu, buku ini juga memetakan perkembangan ilmu perpustakaan dan informasi dengan memberikan perspektif yang luas, dari teori hingga praktik. Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi dan meningkatnya kebutuhan akan informasi yang berkualitas, ilmu perpustakaan dan informasi akan terus berkembang dan beradaptasi, menciptakan inovasi dan solusi untuk masalah-masalah baru yang akan muncul.
Ia adalah dosen Departemen Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi, Fakultas Ilmu Pengetahuan Budaya, Universitas Indonesia sejak tahun 1992 hingga sekarang. Ia meraih gelar Sarjana Sastra Prancis dari Universitas Indonesia pada tahun 1989. Kemudian, ia meraih gelar master dari Department Library and Information Science, University of Sheffield, Inggris, pada tahun 1992. Pada tahun 2005, ia meraih gelar doktor dari Departemen Antropologi, Universitas Indonesia. Ia pernah bekerja di Perpustakaan UI (1996–1997) sebagai kepala perpustakaan di Pusat Studi Jepang UI, kepala perpustakaan di Pusat Kajian Wanita UI (1998), dan kepala perpustakaan di LSM Aksara, Jakarta, selama 7 tahun (1999–2005). Subjek penelitiannya meliputi budaya organisasi di lembaga informasi, pembelajaran organisasi, kajian informasi di media, dan mengembangkan kajiannya di bidang manajemen data digitalisasi humaniora. Ia adalah dosen di Program Studi Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Indonesia. Ia sangat tertarik pada kajian mengenai ilmu informasi dan manajemen, khususnya dalam konteks masalah sosial budaya dan organisasi. Ia adalah dosen tetap di Program Studi Manajemen Rekod dan Arsip, Program Pendidikan Vokasi, Universitas Indonesia, sejak 2015. Sebelumnya, ia menempuh pendidikan sarjana dan magister di Program Studi Ilmu Perpustakaan, Universitas Indonesia. Ketertarikannya pada pengorganisasian informasi membawanya pada minat untuk menempuh studi lebih lanjut terkait bidang organisasi informasi. Beberapa penelitian yang telah dilakukannya banyak berhubungan dengan risiko-risiko yang muncul dari proses pengelolaan informasi, seperti masalah perlindungan data pribadi dan otentisitas. Pada tahun 2021, ia berkesempatan memperoleh Beasiswa Pendidikan Indonesia (BPI) dari Kemendikbud-ristek RI. Kini, ia sedang menempuh studi doktoral di The University of Sheffield, Department Information School. Harapannya, penelitian yang ia lakukan dapat memberikan wawasan baru terhadap pengelolaan informasi yang tidak hanya berfokus pada kontainer informasi, tetapi juga pada pertambahan nilai isi dari konten informasi dengan tetap memperhatikan dan memitigasi risiko-risiko yang dapat muncul dari proses pertambahan nilai ini. Ia memperoleh gelar Sarjana Muda dari Universitas Indonesia pada 1963, Sarjana Sastra dari Universitas Indonesia, serta Master of Science in Library Science dan Master of Arts dari Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) di Cleveland, Ohio, USA pada 1980. Kemudian pada 1984, ia kembali mendapatkan gelar dari CWRU, yaitu Doctor of Philosophy.
Gelar Ph.D menjadikannya orang Indonesia kedua yang memperoleh gelar ilmu perpustakaan sesudah (Alm.) Zubaidah Isa yang lebih dahulu mendapatkan gelar serupa pada tahun 1969. Pada tahun 1995, ia dikukuhkan sebagai Guru Besar Ilmu Perpustakaan di Universitas Indonesia dan membuatnya menjadi orang Indonesia pertama yang memangku jabatan tersebut dan satu-satunya guru besar Ilmu Perpustakaan di Indonesia selama 25 tahun.
Pengalaman kerjanya dimulai dari Perpustakaan Prof. Muhammad Yamin (1962–1963), Bagian Dokumentasi Majelis Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (1963–1965), Perpustakaan Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia (1965–1967), Perpustakaan Departemen Luar Negeri (1967–1997), Dosen Jurusan Ilmu Perpustakaan di FSUI (1967–1998) yang selanjutnya berubah nama menjadi Jurusan llmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi FIB UI. Ia adalah seorang pustakawan di Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) sejak tahun 2015. Sebelum bekerja di BRIN, pada tahun 2013–2015, ia pernah bekerja di salah satu media televisi nasional sebagai pustakawan. Ia meraih gelar Sarjana Humaniora di bidang Ilmu Perpustakaan dari Universitas Indonesia pada tahun 2013. Kemudian pada 2022, ia berhasil meraih gelar magister di bidang ilmu dan perguruan tinggi yang sama. Ia menyelesaikan pendidikan sarjana di Program Studi Ilmu Perpustakaan, Universitas Padjadjaran pada tahun 2017. Saat ini, ia sedang menyelesaikan pendidikan magister di bidang ilmu perpustakaan di Universitas Indonesia dengan berfokus pada peminatan arsip. Ia telah memublikasikan artikel di bidang kearsipan pada beberapa jurnal ilmiah nasional, di antaranya “Systematic Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis of Archivist Competencies in Digital Curation” dan “The Cloud Computing Opportunities and Challenges in Electronic Document Management”.
