Hingga kini ada banyak fungsi otak yang belum tergali dan dipahami oleh masyarakat selain sebagai alat untuk berpikir dan pengendali seluruh kinerja sistem-sistem organ lainnya. Neuroscience atau ilmu yang mempelajari otak melalui pendekatan nonmedis bahkan meyakini adanya Kecerdasan Biofilia (mencintai kehidupan) yang dapat membawa kesenangan dan kegembiraan dalam hidup Anda. Puncak dari semua ini adalah ‘penyatuan’ antara diri manusia dengan alam dan Tuhan. Anda akan mendapatkan penjelasan yang sangat inspiratif, menggugah, dan barangkali tak disangka-sangka tentang bagaimana otak mampu merepresentasikan hubungan antara manusia-alam-Tuhan. Neuroscience for life merupakan ilmu yang belum banyak dikembangkan di Indonesia sehingga keberadaan buku ini bagai oase di tengah kegersangan informasi tentang peranan otak sebagai aktor utama dalam berpikir, merasa, dan keimanan kepada Sang Pencipta. Dengan demikian, buku ini sangat relevan dibaca oleh siapa saja, khususnya bagi Anda yang ingin membangun kesadaran bahwa interkoneksi Tuhan, manusia, dan alam adalah hal yang patut mendapat perhatian serius untuk mewujudkan kehidupan masa depan yang lebih baik.
Taufiq Pasiak (TP) yang lahir di Manado, 29 Januari 1970 merupakan seorang dokter, pendidik, peneliti, aktivis sosial, dan pembelajar perilaku spiritual manusia. Bekerja di kampus, membimbing riset mahasiswa, dan terjun langsung ke masyarakat membuatnya memiliki ragam pengalaman yang luas soal perilaku manusia. Dalam 15 tahun terakhir, TP mengembangkan minatnya mempelajari otak terkait perilaku manusia dalam perilaku spiritual, perilaku makan, dan perilaku politik, terutama pada masyarakat perkotaan. Tiga perilaku inilah yang menjadi inti perkembangan sebuah kota dan menjadi corak kewarasan dan masalah di masyarakat. Tidak seperti sejawatnya yang mengobati penyakit untuk menjadi sehat (normal), TP mempelajari otak sehat (normal) untuk mengoptimalkannya menjadi lebih sehat. “Saya adalah dokter untuk orang yang sehat,” seperti sering dikatakannya.
Lulus sebagai dokter (1996, FK Unsrat Manado), Magister Pendidikan Islam (2003, IAIN Alauddin Makasar), M.Kes. (2004, UGM Yogyakarta) dan Doktor (2009, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, lulus dengan Cum Laude). Risetnya di UGM tentang stres kronik dan perubahan reseptor di area prefrontalis otak menjadi basis utamanya mempelajari area Prefrontalis Otak manusia dalam kaitan dengan perilaku spiritual. Area prefrontalis diketahui menjadi area penting terkait perilaku spiritual, perilaku makanan dan perilaku politik. Disertasinya memberikan fondasi Neurosains pada perilaku spiritual manusia. Studi mendalam tentang otak dan spiritualitas manusia telah melahirkan salah satu karya intelelektual berupa asesmen perilaku spiritual manusia berbasis kinerja otak yang dikenal sebagai Applied Neuroscience Spiritual Health Assessment (ANSHA). TP juga sedang mengembangkan intervensi spiritual terkait kasus adiksi, yakni Cognitive Transcendence Strategies (CTS). Dalam optimalisasi otak anak, TP mengembangkan metode ALISSA yang sudah dipakai dan diteliti.
Kepakarannya dalam bidang Neurosains Perilaku Spiritual membuatnya kerap diundang sebagai pembicara dalam forum internasional dan nasional, seperti forum Neurosains, Anatomi, Neurologi, Bedah Saraf, Psikiatri, Psikologi, Pendidikan, Agama, dan Politik. TP telah berbicara di pelbagai universitas dan lembaga, seperti di UGM, Unhas, Unpad, UNS, UMM, ICRS, KPK RI, KPU RI, Kementerian Kesehatan, Kementerian Pendidikan, KemenPAN-RB, dan lain-lain. Di hadapan Majelis Guru Besar (MGB) ITB, TP tercatat telah dua kali diundang sebagai pembicara.
Sejak 22 Desember 2020, TP telah diangkat menjadi Dekan Fakultas Kedokteran UPN Veteran-Jakarta Jakarta. Sebelumnya, TP pernah menjabat Kepala Bagian Anatomi-Histologi dan Sekretaris Medical Education Unit (MEU) FK Unsrat, Wakil Kepala Lembaga Pendidikan dan Pengembangan Pembelajaran (LP3) Unsrat dan Koordinator Pusat Studi Otak dan Perilaku Sosial LP3M Unsrat. Ia juga pernah menjadi Direktur Centre for Neuroscience, Health and Spirituality UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Sekjen Masyarakat Neurosains Indonesia (MNI), bidang Kaderisasi dan Kepemimpinan PB IDI, Ketua Bidang Hubungan Antar Agama MUI Sulut, Ketua Dewan Pakar DMI Sulut, Ketua Pimpinan Daerah Muham madiyah Manado, anggota American Psychology Association (C.2002477976), dan lain-lain. TP menjadi pendiri dan terlibat aktif dalam Masyarakat Neurosains Indonesia, sebuah organisasi yang dibidaninya bersama sejumlah pakar Neurosains dari pelbagai Universitas. Dari MNI lah diskusi diskusi Neurosains menjadi berkembang hingga saat ini. TP juga turut membidani Badan Neurosains Muhammadiyah di PP Muhammadiyah dan Seksi Spiritual-Religius-Psikiatri di PDSKJI. Dalam 10 tahun terakhir, melalui lembaganya, Semesta Otak Indonesia (SOI), TP memberikan pendampingan dan pelatihan pada sejumlah pemimpin kota perihal Neuroscience for Life dalam pengembangan kota (daerah).
TP menulis 11 buku yang dikutip banyak karya lain, memiliki 5 HAKI dan sejumlah instrumen lain seperti Metode ALISSA (2005), ANSHA (2012), dan Transcendence Strategies (CTS, 2020).
