Synopsis

Buku ilmiah populer yang ada di tangan Anda ini merupakan buah karya hasil pemikiran dan pengalaman penulis selama bertahun-tahun mengenai konsep dasar dokumentasi. Dokumen, menu rut sang penulis yang juga merupakan seorang pustakawan kenamaan Indonesia, ialah pusat dari perjalanan hidup dan budaya umat manusia. Terkait hal ini, dokumentasi tentunya tidak terbatas hanya pada objek pustaka saja, tetapi juga objek-objek lain seperti artefak, spesimen, dan botani. Wujudnya tidak terbatas hanya pada benda dua dimensi saja, tetapi juga benda tiga dimensi, baik mati maupun hidup. Penjelasannya pun diulas secara bertahap dan disusun dalam suatu diagram yang disebut "Semesta Dokumentasi" yang mengisahkan konsep mendasar terjadinya proses dokumentasi serta rangkuman pemikiran dalam memahami makna dokumentasi secara lebih mendalam dan menyeluruh. Untuk memperkaya informasi mengenai ilmu dokumentasi di seluruh penjuru dunia, turut diulas pula kronologi perkembangan ilmu dan konsep dokumentasi yang pada akhirnya melandasi gerakan dokumentasi baru. Hadirnya gerakan dokumentasi baru ini dinilai penting dan mendesak karena berkaitan erat dengan upaya revitalisasi agenda penelitian dan pendidikan dari sekolah perpustakaan dan informasi. Buku ini dapat menjadi referensi yang tepat bagi pihak-pihak yang tertarik dengan ilmu dokumentasi, misalnya para pemerhati di bidang dokumentasi dan informasi, akademisi (dosen, peneliti, mahasiswa) yang mendalami bidang ini, dan tentunya lembaga-lembaga yang bergerak di bidang dokumentasi dan informasi seperti lembaga kearsipan, lembaga perpustakaan, atau lembaga-lembaga yang mempunyai tugas dan fungsi dalam pengelolaan koleksi, misalnya museum, herbarium, kebun raya, dan kebun binatang.
